Baterias Willard S.A. in Colombia

  • 1927

    The Pelaez brothers, Emilio, Jesus, Ruben y Gabriel Pelaez Vallejo, built the Agencia Willard, which imports and distributes the first foreign lead acid battery into the Colombian market. This agency then becomes Almacenes Pelaez Hermanos thanks to its excellent custom service. After this, the American company ESBIC CORPORATION lands in Colombia, which produces the famous brands Willard, Exide, Sure Star and Royal.

    Pelaez Hermanos and subsidiary Baterias Willard sponsors a professional baseball team in Barranquilla

    Willard batteries are used as original equipment for vehicles assembled by Colmotores.

    Thermic sealed batteries and intercell welding are made for first time.

    Pelaez Hermanos obtains the commercial merit badge from the Ministry of Development

    Mr. Theosore A. Willard founded Willard Electric & Battery Co.

  • 1902

    Mr. Willard changes the name of the company to Willard Storage Battery Co. He sales his batteries to dentist and physicians, and to the public railway passenger cars.

  • 1908

    Willard manufactures its first battery for starting vehicles

  • 1910

    Willard Electric & Battery Co names Pelaez Hermanos S.A. as its distributor in Colombia.

    Willard has more than 2500 employees, factories in Toronto and L.A. and distributors in 89 countries.

  • 1952

    Electric Storage Battery Co buys the company

  • 1959

    The Electric Storage Battery Co. Instaló su primera planta en Colombia.

    ESBIC installs his first plan in Colombia. Its factory in Cleveland shuts down and in 1961, the company goes bankrupt.
